30 Oct Open plan kitchen – how to integrate them into your life
Kitchens have come a long way in the past 10 years. They are not just used for cooking anymore. Kitchens are now all about having the space to cook, eat, entertain and relax. Which is why open plan kitchens are a great way to allow you to entertain while cooking. It is great to be able to be in the same room while cooking, so you can entertain guests or simply chat to your family while cooking food.
Also, with house prices rising, it may not be a design choice to have an open plan kitchen but a necessity to join different aspects of living into one space. However, saying this, it has become a real design showcase, making it a must have for kitchen designs.
Islands are the way forward
Islands are the showcase to any kitchen, making it a real centre piece. It draws your guests around a focal point, and if you put chairs around it, it will add a talking point and place to chat.
Islands can be made as complex or simple as you like. We would recommend you using some of the space as a breakfast bar if possible. Making it for a specific use and joining different aspects of the kitchen living together.
Keep it hidden
One way to make an open plan kitchen work, is to keep appliances and clutter hidden away. This will enable you to make your kitchen feel more like an extension of your living space. From hidden cooker heads, to retractable taps. The hidden appliances will enable you to make the space feel more like one rather than separate spaces within one room.
You could integrate some of your living appliances into the kitchen to integrate the two rooms. For example, you could have a shelf within your appliances. You could then put books on this to integrate the two spaces with each other.
